In 2008 two avid master gardeners from Anchorage started Garden Snaps LLC. Every year for the past 20 plus summers we would set out to find new sources of plants and gardening supplies.  As soon as spring was upon us we would go (what we call) "greenhousing", making a day out of visiting greenhouses, filling our car up with plants, having lunch and just enjoying the fact that winter was over and we could dig in the dirt again.  To keep track of the various retailers we started marking up maps with the location of our favorite spots.  As we were doing this we kept telling each other that we should publish a map, since if we thought there was a need for a gardening reference in Southcentral Alaska, then other's would too.  In the summer of 2008 we decided that it was time and we so we started Garden Snaps LLC.  Our first product, the 2009 Garden Snaps Map, was published in April, 2009.  We have received tremendous support from the gardening community to develop and distribute this reference for gardeners in Southcentral Alaska.

The Garden Snaps website will continue to grow as new ideas develop.  We look forward to creating web based tools for garden related businesses to get the word out about what they have to offer.   In 2010 we will be expandng into Fairbanks, the Kenai Peninsula and other Southcentral Alaska locations where there are garden retailers that people want to know about.  These locations will be included in the 2010 Edition of the Garden Snaps Map.

Our goal is to promote the many wonderful, locally owned garden retailers and Alaska Grown products as well as to provide the gardening community with information about Gardening Events, Farmers' Markets, Garden Clubs and educational resources.
